The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed restricted free agent goaltender Joonas Korpisalo to a one-year contract for the 2019-20 season, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

"The 2019-20 season will provide Joonas Korpisalo with a great opportunity to prove himself in the National Hockey League and I am confident that he is ready for that challenge," said Kekalainen. "He has played sparingly over the past three seasons and that can be difficult, especially for a young goaltender, but he has all the tools - size, quickness, athleticism and a passion to win - that it takes to be a very successful goaltender in this league."
Korpisalo was selected by Columbus in the third round, 62nd overall, at the 2012 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2015-16 and recorded career bests with a 16-11-4 record, 2.60 GAA and .920 SV% in 31 games. He made 19 starts, including a career-high 12-straight, between Jan. 13-Mar. 8, 2016 and posted a 13-3-3 mark, 2.28 GAA and .929 SV% during that span. He also appeared in 18 regular season games with the Lake Erie Monsters, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, that season and then helped the club capture the Calder Cup championship.
The 6-3, 182-pound native of Pori, Finland went 18-20-8 with a 2.51 GAA, .911 SV% and two shutouts in 90 career AHL games with Lake Erie/Cleveland between 2015-18. He represented Finland at the 2017 IIHF World Championships and spent three seasons playing professionally in Finland between 2012-15, including 2014-15 when he went 14-13-7 with a 2.34 GAA, .919 SV% and two shutouts in 38 games with Ilves in Finland's Elite League (Liiga).
